Key-Action 1 Mobility
Mobility projects for students, trainees, recent graduates, educators and professionals in education and training.
PROJECTS CAN BE DEVELOPED BY A SINGLE INSTITUTION OR BY A CONSORTIUM
Key-Action 1 (KA1) in the Erasmus+ Programme encourages international education of students, trainees, educators and other professionals belonging to organisations linked to education and training. Projects can be developed by a single institution or by a consortium of Portuguese institutions for education abroad. The types of projects include:
SCHOOL EDUCATION AND ADULT EDUCATION
The fields of School Education (from pre-school to secondary) and Adult Education provide opportunities for the training of human resources in an international context.
HIGHER EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
In the fields of Higher Education and Vocational Education and Training, projects may include mobility for training both students and trainees as well as professionals linked to education and training.
These projects aim to position participating institutions in the international context of education and training, which means that a project must be incorporated within the internationalisation strategy of the organisation (for more information, see the Programme Guide).
Key-Action 2 Strategic Partnerships
Partnership projects for the exchange of good practices or innovation.
THE AIM IS FOR ORGANISATIONS TO WORK TOGETHER TO IMPROVE WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER STUDENTS
Strategic Partnerships supported by Key-Action 2 (KA2) Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices, aim for organisations work together to improve what they have to offer learners and to share innovative practices. Projects can be of two types:
PARTNERSHIPS FOR INNOVATION
Strategic partnerships supporting innovation that must yield innovative results and/or dissemination and exploitation activities of existing or recently produced products, or innovative ideas.
PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE EXCHANGE OF GOOD PRACTICES
Strategic Partnerships supporting the exchange of good practices, whose main objective is to allow organisations to develop and reinforce networks, increase their capacity to operate at transnational level, the sharing and debate of ideas, practices and methods. Strategic Partnerships in the field of higher education will not support these types of projects.
Strategic Partnerships must, at least, address one horizontal priority or one specific priority of the main sector to which the project is directed (for more information, see the see the Programme Guide).
PARCERIAS PARA A INOVAÇÃO
Parcerias estratégicas de apoio à inovação, que devem desenvolver resultados inovadores e/ou atividades de disseminação e exploração de produtos existentes ou recentemente produzidos, ou de ideias inovadoras.
Centralized Actions
The Erasmus+ Programme also finances centralised actions in the areas of education and training (see Centralised Actions on the Executive Agency website). Those interested in centralised actions should contact the Executive Agency in Brussels.
KA1 – Learning Mobility of Individuals
ERASMUS MUNDUS JOINT MASTER DEGREES
Among other objectives, the aim here is to contribute to improving the quality and appeal of the European Higher Education sphere and to support the EU external action in the field of Higher Education. This is an integrated international study programme, delivered by an international consortium of HEI (Higher Education Institutions) from different countries. The list of joint programmes funded under Erasmus+ Programme can be found on the Executive Agency website.
CENTRALIZED ACTIONS ARE MANAGED BY THE EXECUTIVE AGENCY
ERASMUS+ MASTER LOANS
Potential Master’s students who wish to complete a full programme of Master level studies in another Programme country may apply for a loan guaranteed by the EU for the funding of studies abroad.
KA2 – Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices
KNOWLEDGE ALLIANCES
This Action supports two types of cooperation projects:

European Universities, which enable students to obtain a degree by combining studies in several EU countries, fostering high quality and excellence in education and research as well as the creation of a European Education Area.

Knowledge alliances, which are transnational projects that aim at fostering innovation and stimulating knowledge exchange between higher education and enterprises.
CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECTS IN THE FIELD OF HIGHER EDUCATION
These support cooperation with partner countries and aim to support the modernisation and internationalisation of institutions and systems of Higher Education. They are projects of transnational cooperation based on multilateral partnerships, mainly among Higher Education Institutions in programme countries and in eligible partner countries. They can be divided into two categories:

Joint projects designed to achieve results that benefit, primarily and directly, the organisations of eligible partner countries participating in the project;

Structural projects intended to influence Higher Education systems and promote reforms at national and/or regional level in eligible partner countries.
SECTOR SKILLS ALLIANCES
Aiming at filling gaps in skills related to professional profiles and supporting the design and implementation of vocational training content and of teaching and training methodologies for professional profile. They are transnational projects whose basis is the identification of existing or arising needs in skills for specific sectors of the labour market; they also aim to improve the process of adjusting Vocational Education and Training systems (VET) to the labour market needs. There are Sector Skills Alliances that focus on design and delivery of VET (lot 1) and Sector Skills Alliances that focus on the implementation of a new strategic approach to sectoral cooperation on skills. (lot 2).
IT SUPPORT PLATFORMS
This includes the eTwinning, the European Platform for Adult Learning (EPALE) and the School Education Gateway that provide virtual cooperation spaces, databases on existing opportunities, communities for the exchange of practices and other online services for teachers, trainers and professionals in the field of School Education and Adult Education.
CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECTS IN THE FIELD OF YOUTH
These are cooperation projects among organisations active in the field of youth in Programme and Partner Countries aiming to improve the quality of youth work and to promote the cooperation among Programme and Partner Countries in this field.
Jean Monnet Activities
MODULES, CHAIRS AND CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
These activities aim to expand European integration courses as related to the official HEI curriculum and lead, accompany and supervise content research related to the EU in other educational levels, such as teacher training and compulsory education.
NETWORKS AND PROJECTS FOR POLICY DEBATES WITH THE ACADEMIC WORLD
The aim is to improve dialogue among HEIs spread throughout the world, foster cooperation and create a platform for the exchange of knowledge with public actors and with the Commission services for the dissemination of EU content for purposes of promoting debate and reflection on EU subjects and to improve the level of knowledge about the EU and its processes.
SUPPORT TO ASSOCIATIONS
To take part in activities on academic and EU subjects and publicise EU information to a wider public to promote a more active European citizenship.
